The 5th month of your pregnancy is more or less square in the middle of your second trimester. This part of the pregnancy comes as something of a relief for most women. Morning sickness is typically gone, and your body has acclimatized to the changes it has undergone, so you’ll probably feel more energized as well. Your pregnancy will also start to show quite clearly, and you may feel movements from your baby. The child’s sex can now be identified, and it’s possible that you will experience Braxton Hicks contractions. All in all, many women say that this period is the most enjoyable part of pregnancy.
Pregnancy care in the 5th month generally follows from the care you have taken since preconception. Most experts recommend that mothers in their 5th month pay attention to comfort. Make sure you don’t strain your back. Wear comfortable footwear with low, wide heels. Also make sure that you take your weight into account in everything you do. When you’re lifting things, for example, bend your knees and lift using your shoulders and leg muscles.
Of course, you should not be straining at all, so lifting refers only to light objects. In addition to paying more attention to how you walk and lift, pregnancy care in the 5th month should also take into account how you lie down. Make sure you sleep on a relatively firm mattress, to provide support for your already stressed out back.
Pregnancy care in the 5th month should, of course, extend to your diet too. At this point, however, you should be familiar with the elements of a pregnant diet. You have been eating for two for a while, but do make sure that you’re still getting balanced amounts of all the food groups. Consult your physician if you’re not sure how well you’re eating.
